Kusei: Endangered Species
Directed by Karen Mayeda Vranek
Directors Mayeda and Okimoto use regional humor to create this futuristic spoof of various modern-day Japanese American habits and traditions. In the film, a sansei (third generation Japanese American) beauty queen is knocked unconscious and awakens 250 years later to find herself the subject of a grand experiment to repopulate a new world of kusei — ninth generation Japanese Americans.
