From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. David Carr is a media and culture columnist for the New York Times. His 2008 memoir, The Night of the Gun, details his past experiences with cocaine addiction. The memoir was excerpted in the New York Times Magazine, published early, and was an instant best seller. In it, David Carr interviews people from his past, tackling his memoir as if he were reporting on himself. He appeared on the August 5th, 2008 episode of The Colbert Report and on the June 24th, 2011 episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. He commented on the show that the states of Kansas and Missouri are the land of "the low-sloping foreheads." Carr was born and raised in Minnesota and is a former editor of the Twin Cities Reader and the Washington City Paper. He currently resides in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife Jill.
